Status Quo:
- Gitmo as measuring stick of the decline of U.S. empire— from strategic defense to torture prisons.
- Cuba as measuring stick of human civilization— from first new world contact with euros to slavery to banana republic to socialist paradise.
- The paradox of free markets and technology unable to provide a better alternative for Cuba, just 90 miles off the coast of Florida.
Big Idea:
- Gitmo as opportunity to set a new standard for innovation, freedom, and opportunity for the world.
- US innovation in energy, transportation, drug development, space travel, all stifled by anti-tech politics, nimbyism, bureaucracy, DEI, etc.
- Jumpstart the near-shoring of manufacturing required by our escalating coldwar with China.
- Transform Gitmo into a startup city and commercial port, an innovation zone for the benefit of the U.S. and Cuba (power grid) with the strict laws of Singapore, the labor costs of Latam, and the tax incentives of Florida.
- Moral and tech innovation: transform a torture center and adversely possessed naval base into a new technology proving ground, near-shore manufacturing hub, and Oakland-sized commercial port.
- If all goes well, maybe all the tech developed gets rolled out in the rest of Cuba (starting with a reliable source of power from a nuclear reactor), converting the socialist prison island into a shining example of what free markets and innovation can do.
High Level Plan:
- Attract blue chip tech: Tesla, Nvidia, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic,
- Nuclear-anchored grid.
- Light rail
- Commercial Port
- Factories
- Rocket Facilities
- Worker Housing
